This is a possibility that was considered for the ending of Children of Kira but is not necessarily canon

The boy commented, appearing to be talking to himself.
"Of course that had to be the most convoluted plan I've ever come up with, it did take years after all, and precision timing so I wouldn't actually die when I was supposed to. I think writing my name in two notebooks within the same 40 seconds was the easiest part of course, the hardest part was convincing the doctors to tell them I'd died. My acting skills might be great but there for a second I was sure they'd just patch me up and send me back."
Keitaro smirked and closed the notebook, "of course, everything went just as planned like I said it would, don't you think Rem?"
